Grand Final

Hello… well it only seems like yesterday that we were taking possession of our new Stealth/Esslinger midget race car in readiness for our maiden season of speedcar racing. And now the season grand final night on the 22nd of April at the Kwinana Motorplex has been run. What a fantastic night it was with a big crowd on hand to experience the huge fireworks display and what can only be described as a unbelievable nights racing from all divisions.

We set out at the start of the nights racing being only 11 points behind third place and 13 points behind second place in the overall points for the Motorplex Track Championship and going in confident that we could make up the points needed to get a top three finish in our rookie season.

Well history will show we didn’t quite get there but it wasn’t with out giving it our best shot. After finishing the first race second behind Michael Figliomeni and with Neville Lance breathing down my neck we were off to a good start in reaching our goal. But then in the second race I dropped the ball when at the start of the race going into turns 1 and 2 the car got really loose and was sliding side ways to a point of almost stopping. Left with nowhere to go Bart Curnow slammed into the tail tank of my car and just when I thought it was over another driver some how managed to crash into me and rolled his machine. This brought on the open red lights enabling my crew to enter the track and change my flat right rear tyre.

We got under way again only to be black flagged from the race because the rear push bar had been torn off during the stoppage by the crew (coming from a sedan racing back ground that’s what you do when something is hanging off). With the DNF in that race we would have needed a miracle to get the outcome we were so desperate for in the track championship and had our hearts set on.

As it was we finished 3rd in the final race of the night behind Scott Glazebrook in 2nd place and a fast finishing Neville Lance in 1st place – all in all a good effort that gave me the opportunity to get onto the podium and publicly thank all my sponsors that were at the track being wined and dined for the evening in the Richards Waddell Racing corporate box.

During the night it was also great to get up into public areas and sign posters and give goodies to the fans with a special thanks to all the kids that came over to say HI!

With the exception of the sponsor drive day @ the Kwinana Motorplex and the club Trophy night the season is almost complete. Over the next few months the team will be busy working out what parts are needed and where we will be racing next season and of coarse sourcing new sponsors for the up coming season.

My focus now turns to the other love in life - playing AFL football (Aussie rules). I’ve been fortunate enough to have been picked in the league team this season which means having to play two games of footy in the same day.

Not sure how it’s all going to fall for us at the trophy night …So in the mean time Stay Tuned.
